Sony is about to announce a full frame compact camera, known as the Sony RX1, according to leaked images and specs. The details suggest that the Sony RX1 will feature the same 24-megapixel sensor as the also leaked Sony a99, which we’ve previously reported. With a fixed 35mm f/2.0 Carl Zeiss lens on the front, the Sony RX1 looks like a really exciting camera. It will probably appeal to those pursuing quality above all else; a real enthusiast or pro compact camera.
The rumoured price on this model is around $2800, a flagship price for a flagship camera, although it will come in cheaper than a full frame DSLR with a 35mm lens.
The reports suggest that there will be plenty of accessories for the new model, including optical and electronic viewfinders and the specs detail that it will offer full HD video capture, a 5fps frame rate, 14-bit raw and ISO sensitivity that runs up to 25,000.
Looking at the images we can see a sensible mode dial on the top, along with exposure compensation control. The mode dial offers regular auto and scene modes, along with panorama, so it looks as though this camera will have the regular Sony goodies on-board, as well as manual controls.
Expect an aluminium body and a 3-inch display around the back, as well as a lot of excitement when this camera actually appears.
With Photokina coming up next week, we’re seeing a flood of camera information at the moment. We’ll be bringing you everything from the show, so stay tuned.
