Another product from OCZ Technology and this time we’re looking at their Rally2 USB 2.0 2GB flash drive. This particular flash drive uses dual channel to increase data transfer rates and is said to be significantly faster than other flash drives on the market.
About OCZ Technology:
“Entering the memory market in August 2000, OCZ Technology was built around the determination to manufacture the best high speed DDR and RDRAM. OCZ was founded by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts, and our commitment to the end-user has not digressed. OCZ Technology has been an innovator in many areas. We were the first manufacturer to make Dual Channel optimized memory available to the public, which originally took advantage of nVidia’s Twinbank or Dual DDR architecture, found in their nForce chipset. We have now taken that technology and tailored it for the Canterwood, and Granite Bay chipset’s. OCZ developed and was the first to implement ULN technology, which has been a critical element in our manufacturing process for some time. We at OCZ diligently work to improve communication with CPU and motherboard chipset manufacturers prior to the release of their products. Only in this manner can we fine-tune our memory’s SPD settings, ensuring a synergistic relationship between the memory module, memory controller, and microprocessor. In today’s rapidly evolving semiconductor industry, such communication is not simply research, but a necessary component of our manufacturing process.”

The package consists of the flash drive, a USB extension cable and a lanyard. You can immediately tell the Rally2 has been through a bit of a revision especially when you take into consideration its appearance in comparison to the Rally1.
The end of the Rally2 is equipped with an ultra-bright status light which lights up a bright orange. The lanyard feels quite good and isn’t the sort of standard plastic type one thrown in from other brands.
The outer casing of the Rally2 is incredibly robust and feels good. It is aesthetically pleasing and displays the OCZ logo on one side and Rally2 on the other.
The Rally2 is a very pleasing stick to have simply because of looks alone but we do need to test for transfer speeds as the Rally2 claims to be a blazing fast flash drive so let’s move onto testing.
Testing & Performance
In order to test this stick we have used HD Tach, a very small but incredibly accurate benchmarking tool. It contains read and write tests which allow us to basically torture flash drives so we can test them for throughput for extended periods of time.
The Rally2 in use with the lit status light mentioned above. Good thing there is at least something printed on both sides of the stick. Most sticks usually have their logos on one side and always end up going into the USB port face down showing their bland side.
We have compared the Rally2 to the A-DATA Rotary USB 2.0 flash drive which we reviewed earlier.
Clearly looking at the above results it’s easy to tell the A-DATA Rotary flash drive didn’t stand a chance against the Rally2 during the tests. Just look at the pathetic 2.4MB/s compared to the Rally2’s somewhat proud 10.5. We managed to hit 20.3MB/s burst rate which is not bad at all.
The Rally2 is just simply fantastic. It is just that good. We can’t really find a weak point with device apart from the fact that it has a lid which can become lost like thousands upon thousands of others. Blazing fast speeds is definitely handy when shifting files to and from the Rally2 and for those who are always on the go with a busy schedule, the Rally2 will can be a perfect companion and timesaver. You will buy this flash drive if you demand serious performance, excellent visual appeal and of course a reputable manufacturer. OCZ Technology have once again shined for us with this product and we would totally more than recommend the Rally2 as it just blows the competition away.
- Good design, better looking than the Rally1
- Solid build quality
- Nice ultra-bright status light
- Super fast performance
